1) How many hours a day does a patient need to wear the Device?
A. The Knee Device should be worn at least eight hours each day (minimum six hours daily, maximum 10 hours daily). Research has shown that wearing it longer is better. In clinical studies, 8 hours was more effective than 6, and 10 hours was more effective than 8. A clinical study confirmed that many patients experienced dramatic improvement in pain and symptoms when they had used the device for at least 750 hours or more. Most people wear the Knee Device while they sleep or relax at home.

2) Once symptoms improve, can the patient stop using the BioniCare Device?
A. The patient and physician should track his/her own therapy response. After conferring with their doctor, the patient may decide to stop treatments and observe what happens with their symptoms and tolerated activity level. Over time, if symptoms begin to reoccur. The great benefit of owning the Device is that the patient can return to therapy whenever necessary. Another approach is to begin to decrease the number of treatments per week and then settle into a maintenance program.

3) How do I know for sure the patient assembled and is using the Device correctly?
A. Most patients receive a personal instruction on the use of the Device when it is dispensed. The Device comes with a User Manual that describes and illustrates the steps to assembling, using and caring for the Device and its components. An instructional video [DVD or VHS) comes with the Device. RS Medical contacts the patient soon after the Knee Device is dispensed to make sure the patient understands how to use it. If the patient still has questions, contact RS Medical Customer Service at 1-800-935-7763.

4) What are the side effects, if any?
A. Because the Knee Device is a non-drug, non-invasive therapy for osteoarthritis, side effects have been minimal and only include a mild, transient rash that usually disappears when therapy is interrupted for a few days and a topical cortisone cream used. For patients with a recurring rash, an Aloe Vera Gel is available. If a rash persists, the patient should consult their physician, or contact RS Medical Customer Service at 1-800-935-7763.

5) Does RS Medical follow up with patients to monitor progress and see if the device is being used correctly?
A. Yes. First, most patients receive a personal instruction at the time the Device is dispensed. RS Medical also contacts patients within 7-15 days of the time they receive the device. We verify that the patient understands how to assemble and use the device and make sure they are complying with treatment instructions. Patient progress reports are completed at 30 day intervals and RS Medical contacts patients by phone to collect that information if necessary.
