More advanced therapy than TENS
The sequential therapy offered in an RS-4i Plus Sequential Stimulator goes above and beyond standard TENS therapy. The RS-4i Plus combines interferential pain relief and muscle stimulation for rehabilitation in a single treatment.
Sequential treatments begin with a few minutes of pain-relieving interferential therapy. The interferential wave-form programmed in the RS-4i Plus blocks pain signals from passing along the nervous system to the brain with a high-frequency carrier waveform of 5000 Hz. Muscle stimulation is the second segment of a sequential treatment. During muscle therapy, the stimulator uses a custom waveform that causes muscle fibers to shorten and the muscle being treated to contract involuntarily. The waveform is similar to the signal your brain uses to tell your muscles to contract. Following each contraction the waveform will turn off to allow the muscle to relax and repeat the contract/relax cycle multiple times over several minutes. Using a proprietary algorithm, the RS-4i Plus waveform intensity controls increase pulse width rather than amplitude to provide smooth, comfortable muscle contractions. Muscle stimulation is indicated to:
- Relax a muscle spasm
- Prevent or retard muscle atrophy caused by disuse
- Maintain or increase the range of motion of a muscle
- Increase local blood circulation
- “Re-educate” a muscle
- Prevent venous thrombosis (blood clot) after surgery by stimulating the calf muscles
