Life Gets Back to Normal for Giles

For Giles, everyday activities like mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, or even helping with the dishes had become major challenges. Severe back pain turned routine tasks into obstacles that required significant mental and physical preparation.

“Anything from everyday chores to walking . . . I’d have to mentally prepare myself. And then I could complete it, but it was very, very difficult,” he recalls. What once felt simple had become exhausting – and it was clear that pain was dictating far too much of his daily life.

A Lifetime of Strength, Interrupted

Before pain disrupted his life, Giles thrived on movement and activity.

“Pre-pain, I could do anything.”

That statement reflects decades of service and passion for staying active. Giles served in the U.S. Army for 32 years, much of that time in tactical air traffic control. He also wrestled competitively on national and international stages and enjoyed running, lifting weights and living an all-around active lifestyle.

But over time, his body began to work against him. Giles was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and developed an inoperable nerve issue in his back. The pain that came with these conditions was something he could no longer push aside.

“I’ve always had back pain, but I’ve never really acknowledged it,” he explains. “When I re-deployed, I was getting Toradol® shots every day.” Daily injections helped him push through in the short term, but Giles realized this wasn’t a sustainable – or safe – long-term solution.

Searching for Relief That Actually Works

Determined to find a better way to manage his pain, Giles sought treatment through his local VA. He tried three different TENS machines, but none provided the relief he needed. It wasn’t until his provider prescribed the RS-4i Plus that things began to change.

The results were dramatic.

“My pain before the RS-4i was between a 7 and a 10 . . . now it’s a zero to a 2,” he says, referring to the DVPRS pain scale that measures pain from a low of 0 to a high of 10.

With his pain under control, Giles began regaining his independence and confidence. “It’s my magic pill for pain relief,” he says. “It literally opens my world to normalcy.”

Making Treatment Simple and Accessible

Along with the RS-4i® Plus, Giles was also prescribed an RS-LBG™ Low Back Garment – an accessory that simplified treatment and made it possible for him to use the RS-4i Plus without help from others.

“Some of the things that I can do now, that I couldn’t do before, is everything.”

The garment is designed like an adjustable belt, allowing patients to easily position stimulator pads on the lower back and hips. Made from light, flexible fabric, it’s comfortable to wear, adapts to sitting positions, and can even be worn discreetly under clothing during therapy. For Giles, this convenience meant that pain relief fit seamlessly into his daily routine.

A Closer Look at the RS-4i Plus

The RS-4i Plus is an advanced home-use electrotherapy device that combines high frequency (5000 Hz) Interferential Therapy (IFT) for long-lasting pain relief, with Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) for muscle rehabilitation. Patented Intersperse technology delivers both IFT and NMES during the same, uninterrupted treatment session. This excites the body’s natural beta-endorphin production to relieve pain for up to 8 hours, and provides rehabilitative muscle therapy that reduces muscle spasms, increases circulation and prevents disuse atrophy.

The Proof is in the Numbers

We’ve collected data from over 30,000 patients and the profound results speak for themselves:

  • 84% of patients experience pain relief.

  • 73% of patients get relief that lasts over 2 hours.

  • 45% of patients experience a 50% reduction in pain.

*Data was collected from over 30,000 patients by RS Medical representatives in-person and over the phone. The assessment questions used have been adapted from the Defense & Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS).

For patients like Giles, it’s more than a device—it’s a lifeline to feeling more in control, more mobile, and more present for life.
