Jay’s Story: From Injury to the Olympics with the RS-4i® Plus

Jay had always dreamed of a miliary career. She enlisted in the Marines and went to Paris Island for training, and unfortunately that’s where an accident ended the dream.

“I tripped and tore my ACL, MCL and cartilage,” she recalls. “I essentially obliterated my knee.”

Accepting a New Diagnosis

If that wasn’t enough, Jay soon discovered that she suffers from a generic condition that can spread and amplify pain. “Pain is an interesting thing for me. Yes, I had my service-connected injuries, which caused pain. What we didn't know is I also have a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which can cause pain anywhere and everywhere without any explanation.”

“Besides my whole body being a jigsaw puzzle and not wanting to stay in place due to the connective tissue disorder, I have herniated discs at L4 and L5,” Jay notes. “So, my back is a little wonky.”

Finding Relief with the RS-4i Plus and Full Back Garment

Jay sought treatment for her pain and mobility issues through the VA and was prescribed the RS-4i® Plus combined with the RS-FBG™ Full Back Garment. Together, they have allowed Jay to evade pain.

“The device is awesome,” she says. “But the ability to hit the same spot over and over thanks to the garment is crucial. The first time I used it was awesome, but the ability to hit the spot every time is what really makes the difference.

Pursuing a New Dream

During rec therapy at the VA, Jay was introduced to wheelchair fencing, where she eventually reached the Olympic level, participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her journey to the Olympics was supported by the RS-4i and RS-FGB Full Back Garment, which helped her get things warmed up and ready to compete.

“It gets things loose and ready to fire,” she says. “And that’s probably the most important part for me, that I get pain relief before I start training or competing. Fortunately, I got to take the device to Paris with me.”

Encouragement for Others Suffering from Pain

While Jay’s injuries and condition are certainly rare, she believes the RS-4i Plus and garment are worth trying by athletes with disabilities or others who have injuries related to competition.

“We know some things work and some things don't,” she says. “But you don't truly know if it's going to work or not work until you try it. So, all I have to say is get the RS Medical device to try it. Hopefully, it works for you like it worked for me.”

A Closer Look at the RS-4i Plus

The RS-4i Plus is an advanced home-use electrotherapy device that combines high frequency (5000 Hz) Interferential Therapy (IFT) for long-lasting pain relief, with Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) for muscle rehabilitation. Patented Intersperse technology delivers both IFT and NMES during the same, uninterrupted treatment session. This excites the body’s natural beta-endorphin production to relieve pain for up to 8 hours, and provides rehabilitative muscle therapy that reduces muscle spasms, increases circulation and prevents disuse atrophy.

The Proof is in the Numbers

We’ve collected data from over 30,000 patients after 30 days of treatment. The profound results speak for themselves:

  • 84% of patients experience pain relief.

  • 73% of patients get relief that lasts over 2 hours.

  • 45% of patients experience a 50% reduction in pain.
