Billy’s Story: Finding Relief When Nothing Else Worked

The Search for Purpose

For many who choose military service, the decision is driven by something deeper than career opportunity. Billy, a US Veteran, shares that “What led to the military for me was basically an act to serve.”

At the time, life appeared complete on the surface, yet something fundamental was missing. “There was something that was missing in my life, even though I had all of the things that I thought I wanted at the time, something was missing.” That sense of calling ultimately led to a conversation with a recruiter—and to a role few people ever experience firsthand.

When the opportunity to join Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) emerged, it represented both challenge and purpose. “This new job came up as explosive ordnance disposal, and it's like, wow.” The mission set was broad, complex and often dangerous. “We do all kinds of missions.”

A Mission That Changed Everything

One mission, however, would alter the course of Billy’s life.

“One of those missions was where we basically go in and chase a missile as it's launched off a B-52 platform.” From the moment the team arrived on the ground, it became clear that conditions were not as expected. “We get there, get off the helicopter, and I immediately recognized that it was not what it was defined as being.”

Despite missing critical resources, the mission continued—because that is what the role demands. “We did not have the equipment that we needed, but we still had to go through and do the mission because that's what we do.”

The reality of the exposure became undeniable shortly after. “Forty-five minutes later, the engineers of the testing crew showed up in their full radiological protective suits. Needless to say, we didn't have one.” In that moment, the long-term consequences became clear. “So basically, we knew then at some point in time, we would succumb to heavy metal poisoning.”

Life After Medical Retirement

The physical toll of that exposure followed him long after the mission ended. Ultimately, it led to medical retirement. “I ended up being medically retired as a result of this.” Diagnostic testing confirmed the extent of the damage. “Once they did a certain test, they determined that there was active arthritis in every joint in my body.”

Traditional pain management options failed to provide meaningful relief. “132 milligram morphine equivalency didn't do anything for me, and it just put me at an altered state.” Other approaches were equally ineffective. “I've tried TENS, I've tried other aspects, they don't cut it.”

A Different Kind of Solution

Relief came not from stronger medication, but from a different approach altogether. “This thing does something that nothing else does. It works.”

Using the RS-4i® Plus provided meaningful pain relief and muscle rehabilitation.  For someone unable to maintain a traditional workout routine, that muscle engagement was critical. “I can't workout, so the muscle therapy stimulates the muscles and does everything I need to do to get those muscles growing.”

The result was something that had been absent for years. “For the first time, in a very long time, I'm pain free.”

Life Changing Relief

Billy’s experience reflects the reality many veterans face after service—long-term physical consequences that conventional treatments cannot fully address. For him, the impact was unmistakable: “The RS-4i Plus has been life changer.”

His story is one of service, sacrifice and resilience—and a reminder that effective pain relief can redefine what life looks like after the mission ends.
