Feeling stuck without your usual electrode supply? RS Medical has you covered.

Whether you use the RS-4i® Plus or another electrotherapy device, your treatment relies on the ability to get quality electrodes. For many patients, these medical supplies are a lifeline to daily comfort.

But what happens if your usual source is no longer available? Or, you realize you’re on your last pair and can’t get a shipment immediately? If you’re concerned, here is a guide on how to avoid a gap in your supplies.

RS Medical Electrodes – Designed for Durability and Comfort

RS Medical electrodes are latex-free, manufactured in the USA and can be reused for up to 30 days. Featuring a patented multi-layer MultiStick® hydrogel, our wired electrodes are known for their durability and ability to withstand multiple applications to the skin. We offer both standard electrodes for free-form placement on the body, as well as garment-specific electrodes for use with RS Medical garments.

RS Medical also offers PALS® Clinical neurostimulation electrodes for patients with sensitive skin. This specialty electrode combines a patented stainless steel knit cloth and unique sensitive skin formula hydrogel. Combined, this technology enhances patient comfort and eliminates stinging, edge biting and hot spots.

How to Get a New Supply

If your usual routine for receiving electrodes has been disrupted, don't panic. RS Medical offers a few options to help you get back on track:

  • For Veterans: If you receive your treatment through the VA, contact your healthcare practitioner at your local VA Medical Center or Clinic. They can facilitate a reorder of RS Medical electrodes for your device.

  • For Other Patients: If you typically receive orders from a specific source that is unavailable, reach out directly to RS Medical Customer Service. They can provide guidance on how to secure a fresh supply and ensure you are using pads that are compatible with your device.

Rest assured that you’re in control of the supplies you receive. RS Medical will always confirm with you prior to shipping a fresh supply of electrodes.

Why Quality Matters When Choosing a Backup

It might be tempting to grab the cheapest pads available online if you're in a pinch, but not all electrodes are created equal. RS Medical electrodes are specifically engineered for high-performance devices like the RS-4i Plus. Using lower-quality "universal" pads can lead to:

  • "Hot Spots" or Stinging: Inferior gel can cause uneven current distribution.

  • Skin Irritation: Many cheap alternatives are not latex-free or use harsh adhesives.

  • Faster Wear: Lower-quality hydrogel dries out quickly, requiring more frequent (and expensive) replacements.

Make Your Current Supply Last (The Pro-Care Guide)

If you are waiting for a shipment to arrive, you can extend the life of your current electrodes by following these maintenance tips. While electrodes usually need replacement every 30 days, proper care ensures they stay effective until the very last use.

During Treatment:

  • Clean Skin is Key: Always apply pads to skin that is clean, dry and free of lotions or oils.

  • Manage Body Hair: Shaving or trimming excess hair in the treatment area improves skin contact and prevents the gel from degrading more quickly.

  • Handle with Care: Always peel pads from the edges. Never pull on the wire tail, as this can cause damage.

Between Treatments:

  • The Rehydration Trick: If your pads are losing their stickiness, place a single drop of water on the gel, rub it gently, and let it sit for 10 minutes to rehydrate.

  • Proper Storage: Always return pads to their original liners or use wax paper. Keep them in a cool, dry place—extreme temperatures (like a hot car or a cold garage) will degrade the hydrogel.

  • Avoid Chemicals: Never use soap, alcohol or abrasive cleaners on your pads.

When is it Definitely Time to Replace?

Even with the best care, electrodes are disposable. You’ll know it’s time to switch to a new set when:

  1. The edges begin to curl and won't stay flat.

  1. The gel is "pitting" or has visible debris that won't come off.

  1. The most telling sign: You find yourself needing to turn the intensity settings on your device higher than usual to feel the same level of stimulation.

How RS Medical Manages Re-Supply Orders
